MMYB-AYB 30th Anniversary Dinner |
|
Sunday, 22 February 2009 |
The Moomba Youth Band was formed in late 1978 to lead the Silver
Jubilee procession of Melbourne's Moomba Festival in March 1979. Three
decades, hundreds of members, stacks of gigs, and a couple of name
changes later, the band is still going strong, under the banner of the
Australian Youth Band. But we will never forget our origins!
Past and present band members are encouraged to invite family and friends to this very special, formal celebration of the band's 30th year. A fantastic
anniversary event is planned on March 14, with food, music and lots of memories and
photos from the band's beginnings to now.

With Beijing fast approaching (6 weeks to go!), some of our members
have made a little habit of featuring in the media of late. If you’re
at school, keep a keen eye out for us in S-press these coming weeks.
You might’ve also glimpsed some of us in the Education age a few weeks
back, or Iain recently plugging his Olympic Challenge fund-raising
event in the Leader ( click
here). Consider getting along if you’re in the
area!
Olympics aside, last Sunday saw us performing at the Eastlink
tunnel opening; another big event, but just a little closer to home.

Our next performance will be on Friday, 25 April. Why not come and pay your respects with us this ANZAC Day by getting down to the parade? We step off at 10:30 (from Flinders St) and 12:15 (Collins St), heading for the Shrine.

After a whilrwind, thirteen-day tour of New Zealand we're all now safely back in the land of Aus. We're building a virtual tour of the places we went for those wanting to relive the experiences we had and the sights we saw. From our concerts to accommodation and sightseeing, we'll build a collection of information on our new Google Map.
Update: The map now includes the Agrodome in Rotorua! Check out the satellite views of the Zorb park...
